* The motto of NSS being "NOT ME BUT YOU" makes it clear that useful living comprises in placing the society above self. Since the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole, the individual must align his own personal interest with the interest of the society. This expresses the essence of democratic living and upholds the need of selfless service.
